It had both a spot meter and an averaging meter (with a slide switch to go from one to another). It took decent pictures, but seismographs all over New England trembled every time I pressed the shutter. So I must admit to a bit of sentiment for Mamiya, too. The 500 TL was quickly supplanted by a Canon TL/QL, which was in turn replaced by a Leica M2.
