Joseph,

I also prefer to buy items made in Japan or Europe. But the reality of 
the modern world is that most electronic things (and indeed many other 
manufactured products) are made or assembled in China and other low-cost 
locations. The Ricoh GR Digital I just bought is also made in China, as 
I am sure is a large portion of the innards of the computer on which I 
am writing this message.
