Try being a lawyer who defends the very healthcare institutions that refuse to produce records! I pretty much have to convince self-appointed medical record vigilantes who fancy themselves in control of records other people own that they can be put in jail for failing to produce subpoenaed documents - and generally, I"m on their side! Often, their disregard for the actual law is mind numbing! HIPPA, you ask? Well, HIPPA doesn't really matter because every doctor's office has their own version of it. Incidentally, I haven't run across one yet who has gotten it right. It basically falls under the age-old premise that lawyers make horrible mechanics and neither make very good doctors. That doesn't stop many of my clients from having their medical records custodian from trying to practice law! ;-) Frank Farmer Jackson, Miss. On Jan 6, 2006, at 4:23 PM, B. D.
