Yes, it would pay.

I examine my negatives first by lying on the couch and looking at them
with a back-light through a reversed 50mm lens (the closest one).

Now-a-days I have bad shoulders and a disaster for a right arm, so
I've got a light-table on my wish-list in case the kids ever want to
show their elders some appreciation. I'm not holding my breath.

I am probably doing something wrong. Each negative ends up around 120
MB, so to scan them all would be a chore.
