In all fairness I should point out that Dell has a new series of small up
market brick-like machines that may well be better than the rest. When I say
crap I'm referring to the Optiplexes and their other bottom line stuff that
they have unloaded on schools and businesses as well as a few thousand
consumer victime. Also, they do indeed have excellent phone support and
advance replacement services. So do HP and the others. Dell just needs it
more! It's a psycholohgical trick you see. A person whose computer suffers a
meltdown and gets an advance replacement parrt or a geek through the door in
a day or 2 forgets about the breakdown and remembers the great repair
service!
Also, if yoyu work in a multi lab environment filled with Dells, the worse
job in the worls is to be stuck with the Dell Liason job! You get to call up
and follow their idiotic test instruvctions on the phone even though you
know dam well the drive is bad because the stupid thing ticks instead of
spinning! People I have talked to say that after awhile they simply pretend
to go through the motions while the support guy pretends to go through his
instruction manual. It's understood!
