I also like BW at night with the 50mm. I also shot some transparencies of museum interiors, monuments, and cityscapes. All with the M6.... At those times, I didn't have the D70. Although I understand your query at the end, I find myself enjoying using the equipment immensely ....including the D70. And...sometimes, I get good images there, too.
