Yea light is key when your pounding the pavement.  I've been pushing HP5 to 
800 and using a 28mm in NYC these days.  I think its a great combination - 
works well indoors and outdoors on full sunny days.  Keep the focus on about 
a meter for the street and lock that infinity for the views.  I'de bring a 
90 to keep it company and leave the 35 and 50 home.  PS camers bags not 
required.

My last trip to NYC had 2 M6's +21,35,50,90mm lenses. I used the 35 & 50 90%
of the time. I'm going back in Sept for 2 weddings and I have to bring a
larger arsenal which will be in 2 Pelican cases. For my "tourist" shots, I
plan on just one M6 +35 & 50 lenses.

That was my first trip to NY and was amazed by how many blocks I walked
during the days.
