[Leica] LC1 vs 20D comparison

Hi, Simon - I wasn't endorsing the LC1, just commenting on the sensor
size/pixel count issue. It doesn't surprise me at all that the Canon
produces superior results. I those results are accounted for by two
things - software/firmware, and pixel SIZE. If I understand the
technical arguments, the thing that counts more than the number of
pixles is the size of the pixels - and the Canon sensor pixels are
larger.

BD.  I agree about the sensor size, but I'm not convinced that noise is
the only problem.  I used the LC-1 at 100ASA (its lowest setting) and
the uniform colour areas in the pictures were always mosaic-patterned
when the same areas on the 20D shots were uniformly smooth.  I think
this is either caused by the differences between the CCD and CMOS
sensors, or the in-camera image processing software, or most probably
both.  I haven't been able to compare with a Digilux 2 to see if its
software does a better job.

The CCD in the LC1/digilux 2 is relatively large compared with most
digital P&S's although I accept it's still a lot smaller than the 20D's.
