Same story with the E-1, Feli. While it's nice and compact without the
grip, I much prefer the configuration and balance with the vertical
grip, to say nothing of the additional shutter release, control dials,
and much longer battery life. ;-)

Out of the box the 20D is nice and compact, a little bigger than a R6.2
Just for the heck of it take a look at the vertical grip/battery 
holder. I'm not sure how
big your hands are, but it helps balancing the camera with some of the 
larger lenses
