The light is so intense and therefore the colours so strong in sunlight, that anything else looks dull. This is mostly a state of mind I know, but so many images taken inAustralia are "bright" fuji colours that its hard to break the mould. I have started to use more B/W in Australian landscape work and look for overcast days and what has been coined "quiet-light". From your image I will have to reexamine colour in quite light for some subjects.
