Eric,
Don't drift anywhere, surely not to insanity. Sit down and don't fret it, 
relax, have a drink and breathe deep a few times as this isn't an 
insurmountable situation.

Get a strong loupe and as someone mentioned about the little plastic part in 
the back, have a close look and see if you can  see any roughness along it's 
edge anywhere. It maybe very tiny and with those C41 B&W films it seems they 
scratch almost by osmosis for some reason and we stopped using them. 
Although we've tried the new Kodak C41 B&W film and been pleased with the 
results and no scratches any where.  ---- Touch wood!--- ;-)

If all else fails send the camera to Leica to do their fix. Or have the 
dealer you purchased it from send it back for fixing.
