Subject: [Leica] Kodak closure....

It isn't that consumers have lost faith in Kodak or in film--they've already
been lured away by digital, and it's been going on for a long time already.
Film sales are way down because consumer digital is way, way, WAY up; it's
that simple. Go to Target (if you're in the U.S.) or some other mass-markety
discount warehouse and take a look at all the cute little digital
consumer-grade cameras that are on display. They're all digital. Canon and
Nikon aren't going to be making any small point and shoot film cameras
anymore, Olympus has oodles of cool consumer digital goodies, and even more
dramatic, all the so-so and even high-end camera-phones that are out are
slamming the film world. So the market for consumer-grade film isn't there.
People are buying memory cards--Memory Sticks, SD Cards, CF Cards, etcetera,
etcetera, etcetera. (Say that with a Yul Brynner accent for maximum
effect!).

Film's not going to die completely, but I think it will become a mostly pro-
and dedicated-amateur-only medium.

I wonder if Kodak's film sales has been affected by their announcement of
the
stop for film innovations? In other words that the customers has lost faith
in Kodak and seeks other alternative, either digital or other film brands.

The times are changing, yes, but why ask people to leave when they would
have
liked to stay longer if they were invited to do so?

Cheers from a film dinosaur (without badge),
Klaus
