Oh, I know you're right. I never wanted to do that kind of shooting ... I'm
not much of a devotee of the really long lens stuff. But that image just
seemed nuts! I'd be destroyed by that getup. Maybe that's for the young
chaps. Kind of like UPS drivers. Five years and you're turned to mush. Then
they retire you like and old racehorse!

Hi Kit,
Now that goes with the territory for most photogs anyway. ;-)

But this is the dress code for some when you start out to do a shoot of
10-12 hours start to finish one day! And do that day after day for close to
3 weeks! And you're being paid to shoot the Olympics! Or some of the other
international events. Rarely would you see a photographer with one camera
and a 70-200 lens unless it was some amateur. But you'd never see them in
any "accredited photo position."

If you don't have long glass you're screwed, as security has pushed the
photo positions back farther and farther everytime since 1972 Munich Games.
Then it's the demands of space in a photo position that you've held down for
5-6 hours before the event begins. If you leave there's ten guys / gals
ready to jump in and take it.

Look at it this way, it isn't a lifetime sentence, it's a work method for
about three weeks and life returns to normal. But at the Games the world out
side the daily event start lists becomes absolutely non-existent and no one
cares to hear about it nor is interested what's happening out side the fence
of the Games.

You my not think that's possible, but that's the only way one can function
under the constraints and demands of such a high pressure sporting event.
