The woods and path are still as I remember! I don't
remember the hanging baskets at Hawkshead but I do
remember the whitewash!
I was going there from about 1958 to 1964, we were on
a farm near Coniston. Most of the big lakes were quite
popular even then but Tarn Hows and Tylberthwaite
Ghill (SP?) were practically family secrets. We took
visiting friends and family there for peace and quiet.
My favourite lake is Crummock Water. I feel very
homesick for Northern England. Whenever I am
travelling through I open the window for the sweet
smell of peat and bracken.
cheers
Frank
