It scans 35 mm film strips and slides at 2400 optical dpi and photos at 300 optical dpi and is 36-bit. I have one and will make the same offer, if you have a junk negative I'll be glad to scan it and see how it handles it. The Coolscan V has a comes with a film-strip feeder for negatives, so there's no need to cut up a film holder. But I don't know how the software would work with long negatives.
