He also has a very interesting article published in Camera Obscura 35, from 1996, focusing on Riefenstahl's film Tielfland, reprinted at this site: (http://www.powernet.net/~hflippo/cinema/tiefland.html) The Austrian Film Society site (Dassanowsky's) is at this link: http://web.uccs.edu/aafa/aafa.htm Kit -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+kitmc=vuelux.com@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+kitmc=vuelux.com@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Saganich, Christopher/Medical Physics Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 11:36 AM To: Leica Users Group Subject: RE: [Leica] Re: Riefenstahl's filmed Olympics The US thought the Party was just swell in 1936. In the town of Yapank, near were I grew up on Long Island, there was a whole section which named their streets after members of the party. I don't believe there was a Riefenstahl Blvd. After the war they renamed all the streets except one, German Ave. Since were on the subject of film, some ranking party members worked closely with Walt Disney after the war. Can you name which ones? This was a chance to promulgate ideology with the whole world watching, and to push it far and wide via the filmed version. Outspoken and snottily derisive as ever, Kit ;-) -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+kitmc=vuelux.com@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+kitmc=vuelux.com@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Emanuel Lowi Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 11:00 AM To: lug@leica-users.org Subject: [Leica] Re: Riefenstahl's filmed Olympics --- lug-request@leica-users.org wrote: > Send LUG mailing list submissions to I shall dig up the citation regarding IOC commissioning of the film in the next day, as this may be important to some LUGgers. I would not be surprised to learn that she relied a great deal on the cooperation and support of the local government authorities (who were Nazis in Berlin in 1936) -- that's the way Olympics coverage works, as Ted suggested so eloquently the other day.
