Painter's cloth works pretty well, I have one I use for portable backdrop,
but I prefer seamless -- until I got a seamless mounting rod and brackets, I
hung white seamless on conduit from ropes fastened to the crown molding in
my living room. In my area you can sometimes get damaged seamless cheap from
such as Levine or even Calumet.
