And, needless to say, the reason d'?tre for LIFE, as an instrument of the
Cold War, was the portrayal, or the selling, of a way of life.
One of my favorites of LIFE's mistruths came from Arnold Newman. During a
lecture/presentation he spoke about the famous Igor Stravinsky image at the
piano. It was assigned by  LIFE, but not used for the week it was done for.
Apparently it got booted for another image, two East German soldiers holding
hands, while on guard duty at the Berlin Wall. Need I say more!
