Indeed, Cathedral is one of my favorite books (stories) as are many other 
Ray Carver 
stories.  Quite a wordsmith.  If only he made images with a Leica (there - 
it is on topic!)

Phong - Elements of Style is the ultimate English grammar guide. Also look 
for Thomas Kane's "The New Oxford Guide to Writing". And can I suggest 
Raymond Carver's short stories? Simple, masterfully crafted, great for 
discussion and dark like Robert Frank.
