I am not offended by your response, not only because you meant no offense but because this is a conversational discussion and ordinarily, I have a rather thick skin. My personal preference is to isolate the important content of an image through sharp focus and proper tonal placement. That works for me in what I do. It is usually, but not always, the center of my concern when making a photograph. Last year, I took a week-long workshop in Santa Fe on "seeing" given by a notable academic photographer, John Weiss. Over and over, he made the exact point you are making: Go ahead and break "the rules"... stretch yourself and see what happens! I have been doing more of that than ever before, and the behavior is certainly liberating. I like my results best though, when I'm in my "comfort zone" of sharp focus and correct exposure. Sonny, perhaps I need more creative therapy? :-) Len Leonard J Kapner E-Mail: ljkapner@cox.net Tel: (310) 377-5060 / Mobile: (310) 291-0140 -- -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+ljkapner=cox.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+ljkapner=cox.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of SonC@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 9:57 AM To: lug@leica-users.org Subject: Re: [Leica] RE: While it is happening (B. And yes, just to place where I am along this spectrum, I find I am usually offended by unintended unsharpness in a photograph! Len -- And your position on unintentional sharpness? As I sit here looking at what you wrote, I'm wondering just what does offend you. (Probably this question, though it is not meant to.) -- I see lots of photographs that have the life taken out of them by formal composition, adherance to someone's rules on how a photographer should behave, and just plain old lack of imagination. I post lots of flawed shots but I like them, and I see lots of photos that thrill me while they plain old just ignore the rules. Language can be like that too. -- Regards, -- Sonny _http://www.sonc.com_ (http://www.sonc.com/) _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
