AND - keep in mind that he did NOT compare this 50 1.4 with the 35
Summilux ASPH, which is quite odd. It suggests two things to me:
One, the new $2.5K 50 does not hold up well when compared to the 50 1.4;
two, the 35 1.4, which for many of us can serve very well as a "normal"
lens, is still far and a way the best fast Leica lens. Also keep in mind
his saying that there are 2 stops of vignetting at f 1.4, as well as
what he I believe termed  "visible" distortion. And all of this is
coming from someone who is paid by Leica to write about its lenses. ;-)

Normally I would agree with you, but Puts usually doesn't bring up the
point of Bokeh in his reviews; for him to actually come out and make a
negative comment about it must mean something.  I mean, we're talking
about Puts saying something bad about Leica!
