Subject: [Leica] Erwin on the new M-50/1.4 ASPH/digital sensor sizequestion

Simon,
Correct for the Fstop: inverse ratio of the diameter of the aperture by
the focal length. So, changing the size of the image target does not
change the amount of light coming through the lens, just the apparent
size of the image. Actually, the image size is the same; with a smaller
target you have to enlarge more for the same size final image. In 4X5 a
150mm lens is normal and in 35mm it is a medium telephoto.

I suspect that some of us are really going to enjoy the duality of
film/digital. Imagine the new 50 Summilux on a APS sensor digital, you
would have a very fine 75 F1.4 and your 75 would become a truly
spectacular 105ish lens.

When the sensor size changes so does the focal length doesn,t it?Why
does
the aperture stay constant ?Isn,t the f number a ratio of diameter
divided
by focal length?
