Generally, I find colour negative films to be awful for anything except traditional printing. Maybe because I shot transparency all my life I just never "got" the colour neg thing. That said, scanning a slide in a decent film scanner, then making it "black&white" by desaturating the colour (leaving it as an RGB file instead of converting to greyscale) makes for a nice digital file. This is because an RGB file (even desaturated) has more data then a greyscale file. Added Bonus: This will also allow you to "tone" the image by adding selective colour.
