Ah, so it's not just me.  I've noticed the same thing with my color scans 
on VueScan.  I often have to boost the saturation 10-25% in Picture Window 
Pro even after color balance and curve adjustments.

It's not consistent, so I suspect it has something to do with the type of 
film.  Often VueScan doesn't have a profile for the film I'm using 
(particularly Fuji), or I'm not sure of the nomenclature ("Type 2," 
etc.)  So I just try different profiles on the preview and pick the one 
that's closest.

I've just chalked it up to being one of VueScan's quirks.  But it's one of 
the factors that sometimes makes me groan when I do color.
