Peter's a pal of mine. You're right I'm not a long lens guy so far but I just got a 70-300 variable aperture ED Nikon consumer lens because I didn?t want the very heavy and expensive 2.8. 70-200. I didn?t need it to go to 300 damn it but they don?t make those any more. And at a 1.5 crop the 300 is in effect a 400mm. That tight a head shot I don?t need. But your statement at the top saying >Mark - It IS in effect a 600 - go try to find a 600 2.8, much less price > one. It is competitively priced. It's a 600mm lens focusing it's image on a 17.4x13.1mm sensor! Half the image circle of 24x36! And although those 2560x1920 pixies are really NICE pixies it's hard to figure out how since they're crammed into that little chip!? :) But I'll take your word for it... That said although the glass is not as cheap or as compact as one might like apparently your typical lens on the camera together still makes for an impressibly amazingly compact photographic device. I say if the capture area in an SLR camera is a fraction of the size of the 24x36 format so should the camera be reduced in size by that fraction. As the E1 is. Look at an Olympus Pen F (which I have and use) Along with my Olympus XA clamshell (a real classic of a classic) And my Olympus pearlcorder 5924 microcassette recorder. (much smaller than my reel to reel) When they come out with a 3d holographic recorder you can bet it will come out in no time in an Olympus Clamshell version!
