Jeffery Smith New Orleans, LA -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+jls=runbox.com@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+jls=runbox.com@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Eric Sent: Monday, May 17, 2004 6:46 PM To: lug@leica-users.org Subject: [Leica] are you horizontal, vertical, or mixed? I noticed something peculiar...I'm a vertical guy when it comes to pictures of people. My latest thumbnails: http://canid.com/current/thumbs.html My thumbnails of my daughter: http://canid.com/johanna/thumbs.html I probably shoot half horizontals and half verticals. For most situations, I have both formats. Not all. But many. I hadn't realized how much I selectively choose vertical pics for scanning and printing, though, until I realized that all from this weekend's developing session that I chose to scan were verticals. And then noticed how many more verticals I've chosen of my daughter. When it comes to "urban" landscape, I'm about half and half: http://canid.com/sioux_falls/thumbs.html I'm currently reading Jim Brandenburg's book, _Chased by the Light_. One of his pictures is a vertical shot of 3 bear cubs up a tree. He relays the story of how he was trying to go with all horizontal shots. In fact, this is the *only* vertical picture in the entire book. He was a bit shaken by the mother black bear mock charging him, huffing, and snapping her teeth from a few feet away. Kept reminding himself that black bear rarely kill and eat photographers. He made a few exposures, and only later realized that the stress of the situation had contributed to his momentarily forgetting he was creating all horizontal compositions for his book. :) -- Eric http://canid.com/ _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
