"Running into" a concept and understanding a concept are two different
experiences. Those of us who equate surrealism with the paintings of
Salvador Dali need to spend more time studying the photographs by the
surrealist masters and a whole lot more time reading the works of the
surrealist theorists.

Both terms I've run into once or twice before as I was an Art
Photography
Major in college.
I just didn?t think they'd go together as how would you do surrealist
photography by shooting though melted Plexiglas?
I can shoot a pocket watch with an extreme wide angle lens but I somehow
cant get that wraparound effect!

A five paragraph conflicting explanations of the surrealist photography
movement in the book I happen to be reading right now by Gilles Mora
called
"Photospeak" (translated from the French) would seem to embrace just
about
anything. Straightforward or Manipulated. Just tie it in with that new
buzzword: (The) Unconscious.

He lists photographers which would not obviously have anything in common
tome.
Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Herbert Bayer, Ruth Bernhard, Brassa?, Lee Miller,
Man
Ray, Frederick Sommer, Kansuke Yamamoto.
