They take me back to my own teenage years in the 70s, when I was a member of the Social Democratic Youth in Denmark and the 1st of May always started at 6 a.m. at the party headquarters, when one of those old union guys would tell us over rolls and Gammel Dansk (for the uninitiated: a very bitter Danish liquor, 40%) about the struggles for workers' rights in the 1930s and before. It was the job of us young 'uns to prepare the banners for the rally and set up things in general. One year one of my comrades had indulged too much during the morning, and during the singing of Internationale at the rally (which started at noon) he slowly slid to the ground and fell asleep. What also impresses me about your photos is that you were out with your Rollei taking these pictures at mid-day, and by 10 p.m. you had evidently developed the film, dried it, scanned it and had it on the web.
