I always called them yard violets and likewise avoided mowing my front yard for a few weeks. Mine are almost the first bloom in the Spring, and for me signal the change of seasons just like Crocus do for Phong. Everything is still lush, but the thermometer edges up, and some flowers noted as spring-only are fading.
