The latest is a dedicated Siemens system. I should know, I happen to have a 7 and knowing Microsoft, I waited two years for BMW and more importantly, Microsoft, to sort out the bugs before I took the plunge. So far my car has been 100% reliable, touch wood. $70k is a very good price. We pay twice as much here in HK. We have up to 100% tax for autos. A gallon of gas costs $7..... The Digilux 2 is indeed pricey, but the Panasonic LC1 can be had for approx. $1,300. Personally I prefer the look and finish of the Panasonic version, but IMHO, it is still over priced.
