Al Qaeda's main gripe with the US, is that we support (what they consider to be) illigitimate regimes in the Muslim world, (like Saudi Arabia), and we support the state of Israel. "Terrorists", or "freedom fighters", or whatever a militarized rebel group is called, often take abhorrent and drastic measures striving to gain control of their own destiny: Like the IRA and Colonial Americans did.
