    Saturday night,  I was playing with my M6, and decided to see when
and where flare occurred.  I peeled off the scotch magic tape  from the
rangefinder window that suppresses the phenomenon, and pointed the
camera at a light just beside my chair.

I found that as long as my eye was centered, that is, I could see all of
the framelines, I got no flare at all.  When I  held the camera in a
fashion that obscured a frameline, right or left, I could get some
flare.

I'm glad that the MP addresses this problem. I am also glad that a half
inch piece of scotch tape also addresses the problem.
