(10,000 protesters out of 2 million people in the city is considerably _less_ though than marc small's estimate, but more than the 4,000 i was figuring would show up). i was still standing at the starting point an hour after the march began waiting to move. in any event, on to the photos, one of which the philly IMC put on their lead article about it: http://www.phillyimc.org/article.pl?sid=03/02/15/2214253&mode=thread (it ain't the new york times, but i think it's a darn nice photo) no busted skulls, no pepper spray, black bloc behaved themselves, lots of old people (like in their 40's and such even) lots of kids in strollers -- this is not your WTO protest it was just a bunch of polite, ordinary people. (if i may swipe something from the philadelphia inquirer's coverage: But yesterday's PRAWN demonstration brought out many first-timers, some clutching signs taped to broomsticks, taking part in their first demonstration. Mark and Wendy Wiegand of West Bradford described themselves as "wealthy white-bread Americans" and "the typical Chester County yuppies." He's a chiropractor, she's a homemaker; they have a four- bedroom house, three children, and seven cars. "We could be very comfortable sitting in our home and enjoying suburbia, but we really believe we have to stop this," Mark Wiegand said, as the couple boarded a bus into Philadelphia at the West Goshen Shopping Center. "That's one of the reasons we're here. We want to show George Bush that it's not just the radical people who are out there." dang! i brought my gas mask and everything! kc - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
