You'd think we'd have learned after 3000 years after the original that unsolicited gifts from strangers should be viewed with a certain degree of suspicion. If you get an attachment that you didn't expect from someone that you don't know, delete it. If it's from someone you do know, ask them what it is before you open it. Simple really and cheaper than anti-virus software. Even Outlook with its built-in security flaws won't open an attachment without asking you first. Frank, I am afraid it is not that simple. As far as I know, some viruses, including this latest one, do not just look in your address book, but also in your inbox. So if I have a message from you in my inbox, that is enough for the virus to send itself from my PC to you. In this case it will not happen because I do not use MS Outlook, which is the program through which this virus spreads (as is often the case). So the only real solutions are: 1) Don't use Outlook (but of course then the virus writers will just switch to whichever mail program becomes the most popular one); hence 2) Use a virus detection and removal program and update your virus definitions weekly.
