The lever under the rewind knob is the di-opter adjustment for the rangefinder window- look through it (the rangefinder) and move the lever until the image is sharply in focus- and this helps make the RF image easier to focus! The IIIf is a fun camera, and capable of taking nice photos, though in my experience, most need a CLA if they have been pulled from a drawer or closet somewhere. Sitting all these years have made the shutters 'sticky', but once CLA'd they should be good for at least 20 years before the next cleaning, if used regularly!! I have been offered a chance to try them both out, but have still to figure out a couple of things. I'm sure that the answers are close at hand... The Leica CL - the meter didn't seem to be working properly, but it could be it just needs a battery - but can someone tell me what the little silver button on the frontplate does -it's on the lower left hand side close to the lens mount (looking from the rear of the camera). The IIIf - the shutter speed dial is a bit of a puzzle. The only way I can make sense of it is that there are TWO shutter speed dials, the one on the front being for the slower speeds. Is this correct? Also, there is a lever which issues from the rewind knob on the top plate. Can anyone tell me what this is for? Thanks for any information - and if you think there is anything else I should be aware of before handling these cameras, please let me know.
