I believe comparing the process of architecture to photography isn't
entirely accurate.  The architect can specify/describe exactly what end
results he is expecting.  That is not true with photography.  You would need
to find a darkroom/scanner/PhotoShop person who knows exactly what the
photographer/artist is looking for in the print.

Of course, negative development is a different story and quite a bit more
deterministic.
