I've gotten excellent scans from Pro PhotoCD ("foxtail barley" is a good example) and the detail in the scan of "Pete" is at least as good as "barley" but one problem I've had with PhotoCD is bleeding of extreme highlights into adjacent extreme shadows. In most of the Pro PhotoCD scans I've gotten, the circumstances that demonstrate the "bleeding" effect don't show up or the effect is negligible. I tried the drum scan with "Pete" because there are lots and lots of bright highlights adjacent to extreme shadows. In this scan I didn't see any "bleeding" at all. I'm not disappointed. For the vast majority of my photos I can't justify the added expense over the Pro PhotoCD scans but for those that could have problems with "bleeding" and have as much detail as "Pete" does I'll gladly get another drum scan.
