The philosophy of usage of the M series is entirely different to the R series. The R series is like any other SLR camera (although better lenses, and the R8 is the best camera I have ever used) whereas the M series is a quiet, unobtrusive item of great beauty with which to creat images of poetry. I find that when I use my M's there is a whole different mind set seems to subconsciously fall into place and I find that I am more creative and more thoughtful. I can, and have, sit talking to people and photographing them without them minding in the slighteset at the intrusion. As someone put it on this board, it is not that they don't know that they are being photographed but that they don't feel threatened by it. By all means venture into the R world, but don't move away from M's. You may wish to try an M4 or an M6, but always keep your M3 as it is a masterpiece of engineering and a treasure that you will always enjoy owning. I have just taken mine down from the shelf and given it a loving rub and a few quick fires of the shutter just to let it know I still appreciate it!
