I did not say anything about your ability as a photographer!
I meant that for an uninformed person to understand enough about 
photography to use a camera took some effort. To use it well takes years, 
maybe lifetimes.

Read my rewrite of your last paragraph:

Photography is a zillion layered and featured, humongous and complex 
program....I have been working with it without courses or instruction, 
other than the book THE NEGATIVE.....I'm not suggesting that 
people shouldn't use photography, just that it takes some real commitment 
to master...
