my oldest Kodachrome is date stamped 1959, still looks as good as slides
were in those days, other makes are much the same, some have deteriorated
more than the others.  I expect if you kept a slide in the projector gate
for a long time the heat might cause some damage but IMO you'r unlikely to
view the same slide for that length of time on a regular basis - perhaps if
you were giving slide lectures it might be worth while - but my suggestion
would be to keep going out and taking more slides - that way you'll have
more to project and each will get less wear ;-))
