It was a pleasant surprise- and I would say that anyone wanting a cheap, but decent LTM moderate telephoto, the Culminar is not a bad bet! I am going to attempt a cleaning on the otherone, too! Very interesting, and I have come to admire those who do this professionally! As an aside, I have been working on a FED I, trying to get the shutter curtains re-installed...completely re-placed is the right term! It came with a Fed 5cm/3,5 lens, that though is not quite up to the Leitz quality, is nonetheless fairly well made, and seems to be a simple Tessar type optic. I am getting up the nerrve to clean the haze from it, and am eager to see what this particular lens might do in comparison to my Elmar. Iam going to have to breakdown and get your book, I am afeard!! Having been exploring the Jupiter 35/2,8 that has beentalked about here, I have to agree that the Russian and Ukrainian lenses are somewhat underrated, and for a diversion, and for fun, shooting with them is not all that bad. My experiements with the Zenit 20mm/with the 42M Pentax thread were rather rewarding. Since I bought it so I could try WIDE WIDE angle on the cheap- less than $150 for lens AND Pentax body!- I thinkthat it has shown me that the 24mm or the 28mm Leitz lens might be more to my style! Aside from having trouble keeping my feet out of frame, the wide wide format os not one I use all that much. I have found that the 35 Jupiter bolted on my IIIc is one I use as a 'tote 'em about' outfit, and seems to suit the way I see the world! Let me know is you have any copies of the stated reference- I would prefer an autographed copy!!! Dan (The Cheaper Alternative...Shopping tip #346: You can get shoes for 85 cents at bowling alleys.)
