There are Nikonos and there are Nikonos. The later models with all the bells 
and whistles may be overkill but the earlier Nikonos II and III models are 
just about perfect for casual snapshooting when snorkeling, moderate scuba 
diving, kayaking, and just plain taking pictures in lousy weather conditions. 
The 35mm f2.5 standard lens is a jewel, one of the best that Nikon produced 
in that focal length. You can pick up a used camera and lens at a dive shop 
for less than $200. After you dry off on the beach, you can crack open 
coconuts with the camera body.
