The later models with all the bells and whistles may be overkill but the earlier Nikonos II and III models are just about perfect for casual snapshooting when snorkeling, moderate scuba diving, kayaking, and just plain taking pictures in lousy weather conditions. The 35mm f2.5 standard lens is a jewel, one of the best that Nikon produced in that focal length. You can pick up a used camera and lens at a dive shop for less than $200. After you dry off on the beach, you can crack open coconuts with the camera body. Larry Zeitlin
