No, Jo, it's not just for memorizing unimportant events. But...One isn't
in the delivery room as a photographer - hopefully - one is in the
delivery room as a support person for one's spouse. One is hopefully
concentrating on helping her to the extent that one can't really even
think about taking photos until the little nipper is delivered. Sure,
you can get a few shots of the new arrival. But if you really want the
event documented, you want someone uninvolved to do the documenting.

And as to that 20-year-old...Do you have one? I have a couple and I know
they think the whole idea that photos exist of them moments after birth
is pretty appalling to them. Maybe when they're 40...;-)
