I'll just note that it seems to me that big time sports photography is owned
by Canon. At the USA Swimming Olympic Trials this past summer only ONE
photographer there was shooting Nikon, the rest Canon. On the elevator at
the hotel I spoke with one who shook her head, said she'd been a Nikon user
since she picked up a camera, and had sold all her Nikon gear and was
shooting Canon, and was a LOT happier with her ability to get THE shot.

I'll see if I can dredge up a picture of the lens farm at the end of lane 4
when Tom Dolan was swimming the 400 IM. It was impressive.

By the way, virtually all of these photographers were shooting digital.

I found the deck to be insanely crowded and while I captured some good
images I didn't have a wide enough lens to do the job I needed. Some of
that, I'm sure, was my own challenge.

It was also an interesting place to shoot color since the TV folks lit the
pool and the deck behind the start-end for their mammoth cameras which were
all the way at the top of the venue. (I wonder what one of those box lenses
costs). So the color temperature out over the pool was one thing but even a
yard back the regular venue lights took over and they were VERY different.
Sort of like shooting half in florescent and half in daylight.
