Rather than a metronome, I'm using a multi-featured stopwatch from Radio Shack whose pace function can be set to sound a beep at one second intervals. I find it convenient for burning and dodging because I can do so by counting beeps rather than by looking at a timer dial or counting "one thousand one, etc." It's also very handy for split printing - so many beeps under the green, so many under the blue. And after the print exposure I leave it on to time immersions of the print in the stop and fixer.
