My experience with NYCV was good.  There's a fellow there by the name
of John Collier who was especially helpful to me.  I was looking for a
particular piece of gear and he flat out told me that he couldn't meet
some of the NYC prices, and then suggested which stores had the item I
wanted at the best price.
