An excellent technique.  I'll use whatever I can to steady the lens, too.

It sounds like my wildlife excursions resemble yours.  Often the terrain is too rough or loose or soft for a tripod (aside from the @#&* thing constantly getting caught in bushes) and despite not having good footing or seating and panting like a dog in Sacramento I can usually calm my breathing and keep from sliding down the cliff long enough to squeeze off a few exposures.

BTW, Stephen Gandy sells the viso-to-N**** adapters to use your 400 Telyt on a N**** body.  From this perspective the viso version of the lens is extremely versatile.
