My two contacts at Schmidt, Mr. Tam and Peter Kwok, have both left the company, but I was well received by Ernest Chan. I had called him yesterday to tell him I was bringing in the M6HM TTL and explained that it was the third time the rangefinder needed to be adjusted to produce coincident images at infinity. Ernest and I took the camera on to the stair well of the 9th floor of Somerset house and he verified that there were indeed two images when the lens was focused at infinity. Inside the show room (now moved from the 35th floor of Dorset House) Ernest told me that he had spoken with Solms after I had called and that they had decided to replace the viewfinder on the camera rather than have Hong Kong adjust it again. This meant that I couldn't have the camera by Friday when I start my next trip before summer vacation, but Ernest reached into the display case and lifted out a demo M6 TTL 0.72 and said that I could use that for the next month while my camera was being repaired! As we were transferring Kameraleader case and my Summilux 50 lens, Ernest noticed my LUG soft release (a present from Tom A. during the first Hong Kong LUG dinner last year - thank you again Tom). I told Ernest about the LUG and how he could subscribe. I think, if he does, he will find at least some of our chatter interesting. Anyway, I am mightily impressed with Leica's (Schmidt's) customer service and will be going away with the chrome M6TTL, my 24 Asph, my 35 Summicron Asph, my old Summilux 50, and likely a 90 Elmarit which will all fit snugly in my Domke 803 bag. Should be a good summer - back in August. Cheers Howard. PS: Oh yes the rangefinder on the loaner Leica is perfect! :)
