I have on occasion used a couple of drops- (DROPS- it doesn't take much) of clear liquid Ivory or Dawn in a litre of water to do the same thing. Now, let it be known that the water here has relatively low hardness- in fact, I asked a chemist at the treatment plant when I worked for the city, and he alluded to the fact that they ADD serveral grains of hardness to our water in order to protect the plumbing since most of our water is from rain. Though this works for me, I'd test it in your water as these surfactants in the detergents can precipitate out calcium deposits. If you use distilled water for the final rinse, you are pretty safe.
