Try this with your M6 TTL.  

Wind the camera on and set the shutter dial to B. 
Press the shutter button a little but don't fire the shutter.
You'll see no metering lights.
Quickly set dial to 1 second but don't touch the shutter button. 
You'll see the lights.  

Interesting, hey what!  Explain that someone please.
